When I first started this blog, I posted all the time. It was election time, and I was pissed. On November 3rd, though, I burned out. I realized that the anger wasn't hurting G.W. one bit, but it was killing me. This hasn't stopped the outrage altogether, of course, but it has reduced it, for the most part, to making indignant noises while reading the Times in the morning.
In our "anti-drug" (those are heavily sarcastic quotes there) culture, we're constantly admonished to stay away from mind-altering substances, for fear of dire consequences like addiction. They don't warn us, though, that we can become addicted to the substances we ourselves produce: that we get high on anger, indignation and worry. Each of these states creates a rush of hormones that is overwhelming to our primate minds, and we get hooked. Eventually, with enough rage and worry, we literally rewire our brains (then we vote Republican). I realized I was a hard core addict: addicted to self-righteous indignation, and to a belief that I was responsible for everything that was going on. Simultaneous helplessness and megalomania, a nice combination. So I've been trying to stop. One of the casualties has been this blog, since politics was what motivated me to write something public anyway. I doubt anyone wants to read my spiritual meanderings, or philosophical ruminations, and as for bitching, well, I really do enough of that already.
So I don't know what this blog will become, or if it will continue to evolve, or if I'll go back to pen and paper. So for now, here is a picture of Lily to shepherd the blog.
